OCR: MARS: GENERAL INFORMATION MARS'S SATELLITES The origin of Mars's satellites remains a mystery. They are too small to have been produced by the simple aggregation of stellar dust during the formation of the solar system. Could they be asteroids captured by Mars's gravitational field? This is hardly likely-given Mars's low mass, its gravitational field is too weak. One day a manned mission to Phobos may make it possible for us to answer these questions and learn more about the formation of the solar system. In any event, when astronauts journey for the first time from the Earth to Mars, they'll surely be tempted to make a brief layover at Phobos ... MARS BETAT
